Our Response: |
Hello to all at Giftmugs, Thank you for your prompt responses. I have to make a quick
constructive comment about the purchase process re. the amount
of paperwork involved, I have purchased cars with less
transaction time. It's your procedure and it seems obvious that
you have had some acceptance issues in the past, part of the
game. I would recommend a quick review to streamline the
process, to a new customer it is almost not worth the effort,
it's only a coffee mug. Again this is purely a constructive
comment. I will admit there is little grey in the process. On the business side, can you give me your best estimate for a
delivery date to California? thanks Dave Weiser |
Thank you for your e-mail and
observations.
We fully understand your concern and share your observations.
Yet, unlike a car purchase (which caused you less work than the
ordering of only one single coffee mug from our web site) we offer
a myriad of options - all of which are not applicable to a car
purchase where you select from a few standard items and are done
with.
Our site is for the purchase of a completely customized product
where the buyer "creates" his or her own version. Just imagine
what an on-line order form from, for example, GM would look like
if every aspect of the product could be customized?! Or better
still, if each buyer where to build his/her car from scratch, as
we offer our customers.
In light of this and in response to suggestions like yours, we
developed a ONE CLICK order form from which almost any
and all of our standard mugs can be easily ordered - without
having to wade through our custom mug order form. Yet, low and
behold, very few customers use it and, apparently, prefer, by a
"long shot" our long form.
You might want to take a look at how easy it is to order from
here:
http://www.giftmugs.com/sampler/various/V0484-Intimate-Love-Coffee-Mugs.htm
By the way, this web page not only permits you to order with
ONE CLICK but also gives access to our regular, long form.
As always, we welcome constructive contributions by our
customers, and/or any expert in this matter, and look forward to
receiving your "quick review to streamline the process"
and hope that your suggestions will permit us to offer our
customers a buying experience worth remembering and enjoying.
Again, many thanks for your order (which was shipped today) and
we look forward with great interest to hearing from you very
shortly.P.S. Yes, it's only a coffee mug! Yet it too deserves all attention
to detail and wishes of our customers - just like a car. |

I am looking to have a mug created. I have designed it and
have it in a PDF file. I would like it to wrap all the way
around the mug with the writing on one side. My question is,
what size should I set it to, so that it fits on the mug the
way I would like? I have tried to have this made before with
another company and it turned out terrible, color was bad,
writing was in the wrong spot, etc., and would like to avoid
this happening again (not to mention $ wasted). Thanks for
your feedback. Melissa |
Yes, indeed, we can decorate our coffee mugs as you describe.
Please make sure that the resolution of your digital images have
at least a resolution 300dpi's and are in the final dimensions,
or larger.
You can find the various mug dimensions by entering the word:
dimensions into our FAQ's search box found here:
http://www.giftmugs.com/ourfaqs/index.html
With respect to colors, we always use customer-submitted digital
image files AS IS. If color reproduction is critical, you should seriously consider
ordering a sample mug first. For more details on sample mugs,
please consult here:

| Hello. I've bought items from you
before and have been very satisfied. I want to do this: I want
to mail you a picture, specifically a map picture of the State
of Illinois, which I want to be put on one side of a mug. I
would also provide the text I want for the other side of the
mug. I fully realize that I will be charged substantially extra
for not sending you the picture electronically. I have two
questions: 1) will you do this, as you did a couple of years
when I last ordered with you? 2) are you technologically able to
alter the picture in small ways - specifically, the map picture
identifies three cities of Illinois, but I want only Chicago
identified. Is this possible to do without massive
inconvenience/cost? Thank you. George Sirgiovanni |
We can digitize (scan)
your hard copy photo and create a digital image suitable for
printing on our coffee mugs. We charge US$5.00 for each scan. We
can also make small modifications and alterations at very
reasonable costs as shown here:
http://www.giftmugs.com/admin/Custom-Art-Coffee-Mugs.html
You can submit the required text with a regular e-mail, as long
as you indicate in our secure on-line order form the font type
and font color you require:

Thank you for the mugs. I received them very quickly and they
were wrapped very carefully. I appreciate your speed in
creation and delivery.
I thought I should let you know that I was disappointed with
the quality of the typeface on the mugs. I hadn't anticipated
that the font would look so blurry. White spaces inside
letters (like in the 'a' and 'e' and 'p' and 'g' and even 'h'
and 's') didn't show up or barely showed up. It makes the
writing a bit difficult to read. If I'd realized that this
would be a problem, I would have chosen a different font. You
may have addressed this on the website, but it looked fine
when I created the file and so I didn't think twice about it.
I only mention this because I think it would help future
customers to know when their font is dangerously tight. I
didn't notice anything from the proof that you sent because it
was so small so I couldn't see the individual letters, and I
never thought it would look different from what I sent you.
I don't think this will stop me from ordering from Giftmugs
again. I love the concept and, except for the font concern,
am pleased with your service. I just thought you might want
to know about this feedback.
Thanks very much for your careful attention to this order. I
appreciate it. |
We
understand your concern about the lettering you submitted. As
always, we use customer-submitted digital image files AS IS,
and the mug decoration is exactly as you submitted it.
If a decoration is critical, either as far as color is
concerned or any other aspect - in your case text - we always
recommend ordering a sample mug first. We have expressed this in
so many places in our web site and e-mails, that we're hesitant
to mention it again here.
A sample mug is important as any digital image or text when
seen on a monitor will never be the same as when printed on a
ceramic coffee mug or elsewhere, for that matter. The images and
text vary widely even on different monitors. Each image we
receive from our customers looks different on any of the many
monitors we use and hence, we do not know what any image really
should look like. The image you see with your monitor might or
might not be shown the same way on our monitors.
With respect to text, we have always preferred fonts from the
sans-serif family, vs. serif fonts. The lettering and text in
this web site are produced with the sans-serif font: Verdana
and/or Helvetica. By using a serif font in the same font size as
the above Verdana font, such as
Times New Roman, this very sentence would look like this.
The text you prepared and submitted was
Arial Black.
Most fonts when used with their BOLD or Black
option are not very pleasant to look at or easy to read on our
mugs and hence, Bold or Black options should only be used for
emphasis and never for the entire text. (Note, the fonts
mentioned here can only be seen on your monitor if they're
installed on your computer. Otherwise they will default to your
computers default font.)
The virtual mug layout we send along
with our order confirmation is only to show what your decorated
mug might look like and since it's in a very low resolution, no
details will show. They only show in a sample mug decoration.
To make our point, we have reproduced
the above paragraph again, this time with Arial Black: The virtual mug layout we send
along with our order confirmation is only to show what your
decorated mug might look like and since it's in a very low
resolution, no details will show. They only show in a sample mug
decoration.
It's very hard to read. Wouldn't you
agree? |

Your website is incredibly detailed, yet because I'm not a
professional graphic artist I have a few questions and just
want to double-check everything.
First of all, I want an image on both sides, and both are
simply font. It appears that would be a wrap-around, yes?
There may be a small digitized, stylized hippo at the bottom
of one of the fonts that I grabbed off a website - but it's
not a "Photo," but a little .gif.
1) I use Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS. Is this
acceptable for making my artwork, which is only font? Or do
you still prefer Illustrator? (I downloaded a free trial
version of Illustrator just in case!)
2) I understand that the fonts should be a .tif over 300
dpi. I can put this on a transparent background.
3) Naturally, I can make the font any color to send to you,
but do you charge more for color than a simple black or one
color logo? (like Adobe's various rainbow effects).
4) Because there are no photos - just font - I should be able
to e-mail the graphics to you with no problems. All mugs will
be the same.
5) Is there anything I'm overlooking, or am I thinking too
hard?!
THank you very much in advance.
Debi Bradford |
Permit us to answer
your questions in your sequence. 1.) PhotoShop format is
acceptable as long as the resolution of your works space is 300
dpi's AND your image size is in the final dimensions of the
desired mug decoration, or larger. It does not matter whether
you use graphics, photos, illustrations or only fonts or a
combination of all of them.
2.) You can put your designs on an all transparent background
or all white. White is OK as we cannot print the color "white"
and hence, all white space will NOT be printed by us. The .tif
format is also acceptable but why change it from PhotoShop which
we can use and lose the transparency? Just make sure that you
flatten all layers before sending it to us.
3.) You can use any colors you want. We do NOT charge extra
for any colors and we can print any color as long as it's in the
color
gamut. Remember, we use any and all customer-submitted
digital image files AS IS.
4.) You should be able to send us any graphic file, photos or
no, or any combination thereof ,without any problems, as long as
they meet with our criteria.
Note: In general, we do not use any digital file in
the .gif format. Hence if you have a .gif file you might want to
consider converting it to another file format, such as .tif or
.jpg before using it - always considering the resolution and
size requirements indicated above.

Hi,
I had you print a few mugs for me last year and was
really impressed with your speed, professionalism and
beautiful print job. Unfortunately, I am visiting the
recipient of one of these gifts and the image has almost
completely vanished from the mug. It looks terrible. I
see that underneath you stamped a hand-wash message,
though I have plenty of these mugs (from a different
source) at my home that are in constant use, always
washed in the dishwasher and are in perfect shape after
two years. This leads me to believe that the print job
on your mugs is quite inferior, or there was a defect in
the print job. Considering the price of these per mug,
I am very disappointed.
Just thought you should know that your product is not
holding up.
Sincerely, Kim Curtis |
Hello Kim Curtis, We're very sorry to hear that your mug decorations have faded
and no longer shine, (or as you say: "the image has almost
completely vanished") as when you received them. We're not disputing your claim but our staff is using, on a
daily basis for over 4 years now, the same mugs and there is
hardly any deterioration in the mug decoration at all. Our mugs
are used daily in the microwave oven but have never seen the
inside of a dish washer. As indicated on the bottom of our mugs
and in our web site, we do not recommend using dish washers and
exposing them to direct sun light. Since we have no influence over how our customers use and treat
our full-color, custom-decorated coffee mugs, we cannot offer
any opinion nor suggestions other than those indicated at the
bottom of each coffee mug and our web site. Again, we're very sorry that your mugs are not holding up as
ours do.P.S. Since you did not indicate what printing process was used for
the mugs you mention as a reference, it's quite possible that
they hold up longer, as a mass produced spot-color mug might. P.S.S. One of our competitors offers mugs as dishwasher save. However
in the fine print it says, and we quote: "Our Mugs are considered Dishwasher Proof, (tested for 100
washes) But due to the abrasive and acidic nature of modern
detergents for longevity of the logo/picture it is advisable to
handwash." (The Mug King) |
