In this example, the decoration goes from mug handle to mug handle. The digital art that created this image is a vector artwork and hence the area to be printed is only where there is something to "see".  "White" spaces do not count as they are not part of any vector digital artwork.
Vector artwork can be created with graphic applications such as CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator or Freehand.		 In this example, the decoration also goes from mug handle to mug handle. The digital art that created this image is a raster or bitmap artwork and hence the area to be printed consists of the entire decoration no matter whether there is something to print or not. "White" spaces do count as they are integral part of any raster/bitmap digital artwork.
Raster or bitmap artwork can be created by scanning an image or creating it with graphic applications such as Adobe PhotoShop, PhotoPaint and similar raster-based programs.
