Step-by-Step Instructions for compressing (zipping) digitized art
How do I prepare my computer files for easy compression?
Where can I obtain file compressors? or a completely free zip compressor?
It is not difficult to compress files, just that the wording WinZip uses is a bit confusing.
With WinZip running select: "New" and up comes a window called: "New Archive". Where it says: "File Name" (at the bottom) type in the name of what the compressed .zip file should be called. For example: mydesign.zip In the field called: "Create In" indicate the directory where
you want the to be created zip file to be stored. Make it an easily recognizable sub-directory name, for example, "sendart", in your "Temp" directory so that you can find it easily later on. Then hit OK.
A new window opens up called: "Add" and where it says:
"Add From", you just look for the uncompressed, original file you want to send us from your disk. Then hit: "Add".
Your newly created .zip file should now be in the directory you created under the name: mydesign.zip. For example in:
C:\temp\sendart\mydesign.zip. It does not matter what your
original file was called because when we un-zip your mydesign.zip file we'll get your original file including its original name.
This "mydesign.zip" file is what you attach to an e-mail to us.
That's all.P.S. There are several compressors that are easy to use and are also very popular, such as:
- Nico Mak's WinZip
- Mijenix ZipMagic
- Pacific Gold Coast TurboZip97
- PKZip
Nico Mak's WinZip can be obtained here.
A completely free, freeware zip-compressor can be found here:
