Text on Arkansas State Mug:
Arkansas’s official nickname is “The Land of Opportunity”
but is also called “The Natural State”. The name Arkansas is
taken from the Arkansas River, which is named for the Native
Americans of the Arkansa tribe. The s was added as a
plural, though it remains silent in the pronunciation.
North and west are the Interior Highlands; east and south is the
Coastal Plain.
The Interior Highlands include the Ozark Mountains, the Ouachita
Mountains, and the Arkansas River Valley, which divides the two
highland regions. Little Rock is the capital and largest city of
Arkansas. The state entered the Union on June 15, 1836, as the
25th state.
