Text on Mississippi State Mug:
Mississippi, located in the Southeastern
United States, bordering on the Gulf of Mexico, entered the
Union on December 10, 1817, as the 20th state. Jackson is, the
state capital and also its largest city.
Mississippi lies wholly within the Gulf Coastal Plain, one of
the principal natural regions of the southern United States.
The state takes its name from the Mississippi River, the great
waterway that forms the state's western boundary. The river's
name was derived from an Algonquin term for "big river."
Mississippi is commonly nicknamed the Magnolia State because of
the great number of magnolia trees (the state tree) that grow
within its borders. The blossom of the magnolia is the state
flower.
The State Song:
Go, Mississippi
States may sing their songs of praise with waving flags and hip-hoo-rays,
let cymbals crash and let bells ring 'cause here's one song I'm proud to
sing.
Choruses: Go, Mississippi, keep rolling along, Go, Mississippi, you
cannot go wrong, Go, Mississippi, we're singing your song,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I
